(update) The T's voice is HUMAN????? I DON'T THINK SO......

For years I thought the T's voice on the bus and subway was just a computer voice....well METRO tells us today it is a real person......who knew????

The voice behind the MBTA system

This can't be correct.....for a few reasons

  1. The voice on the newer RED LINE trains at least sounds human and it isn't the same voice that is on the GREEN or BLUE Lines or the bus.
  2. The voice that announces the SILVER Line at South Station is a yet another voice
  3. Then we have the Mass Eye and Ear woman on selected trains....she human ( and sounds like Dorchester or Southie)

I was in Chicago last summer and the 'L and bus voice sounds very human and is called Happy CTA guy. Turns out he is a voiceover pro from Milwaukee. Then for station announcements they use a woman from Maine that tells people "Attention Customers...An Inbound Train From The Loop Is arriving Shortly"

Even the new computer voice at South Station sounds human however I wish they had recorded the guy that went...."Auuuuuuuuuuubuuuuuuuuuuundale" If they can record the clickty clack of the old board they could do that.

I really hope that guy doesn't really sound like this in real life

His voice sounds so automated! I really can't believe that's a human that says, "Change here for the Commuter Rail."

I had a chance to meet the fellow a few years back. I was attending the annual bus rodeo, and so was he.

(If you've never seen that, you probably should. You seem like the type who would like it. I mean that as a compliment.)

Anyway, in case you don't know this, I should tell you I'm a voice=over pro and also do production work on sound files for commercials, phone applications, etc. Somehow or another that came up in conversation and that's how I found out he was The Voice Of The T. He's actually a T employee in another function (I'm afraid I can't recall exactly what.) He gave me his tape to see if he could secure some outside work through the company I do most of my work for, but it didn't happen for a number of reasons.

Anyway, he's a really nice fellow.

Now, having said that, I'd prefer a true pro voice. Mine :-)
